'Enduring a Horrific Ordeal': Relatives of Missing Teens Await News After Alpine Inferno
The relatives of young people unaccounted for after a devastating fire at a bar in a Swiss ski resort are enduring an agonising period of uncertainty for answers and requesting any details about their loved ones online.
The fire ripped through the Le Constellation bar in the alpine resort, located in the mountains of the Valais region, in the small hours of New Year's Day. Circulated footage depict the ceiling igniting as beverages with sparklers are raised in celebration.
Authorities have warned that it could take considerable time to formally name the fatalities of the fire, which killed numerous partygoers and injured another scores more. Officials stated on Friday that 113 of the injured have been identified, with work still underway to name the remaining few.
In the interim, families and friends have been posting on the internet to appeal for information about their loved ones who were at the bar that night.
Desperate Searches for the Unaccounted For
The whereabouts of teenager from Switzerland Arthur Brodard, a teenager, are currently unknown, according to an heartfelt request from his mother.
The resident of a town near the city, informed a publication that she had gone back to Lausanne to see if he was in the hospital, while his father did the equivalent search in Bern, but was unsuccessful.
"I'm living a nightmare, an ordeal. Either I find my son in the morgue, or I find him in a serious state. It's terrible," she stated.
She explained that some of his peers had been located with injuries covering nearly half their bodies. "It's unspeakable; they experienced an absolute nightmare."
The Italy's foreign ministry has said that a number of of its young people are still unaccounted for.
Among them is Emanuele Galeppini, a teenage promising athlete, originally from Italy but now living in Dubai.
The Italian Golf Federation has said that he is no longer with us, without directly referencing the tragedy, honoring a "talented young man who carried with him dedication and authentic values."
His father, reportedly stated that his son was at the bar and was last heard from around midnight. An official spokesperson has stated that a formal confirmation of his death is not yet.
Other Cases
Giovanni Tamburi, 16, is likewise unaccounted for. His mother said that he had been on vacation but had ventured out with friends and found himself at the bar.
"Someone with him said they ran away after the fire broke out and that he had his mobile with him, but then at a certain point he they were separated," she recounted, adding he had been wearing a identifiable piece of jewelry.
One of his teachers stated, "He was known for his good nature and smile, combined with great responsibility. Every time offer to get me a coffee."
Alice Kallergis, who holds dual Swiss and Greek citizenship but lives full-time in Switzerland, was also present on that night, according to reports.
Her sibling has shared an appeal on social media, saying the family has had "no news" regarding the 15-year-old or the three friends she was with, who are also unaccounted for.
Consular authorities from her country of origin say they are actively engaged with the developments.
