A Ton of Anime News Dropped During the Festive Season
The Christmas holidays provide a plethora of activities far superior than checking the headlines: opening presents, getting stuffed on holiday treats, and harnessing patience techniques to avoid yelling at family members. I hope you succeeded in do all these things and more. Nevertheless, the entertainment world never sleeps, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. Many thrilling news items came out during the festive period, and should you overlooked any, here is a compilation of the most exciting bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Season 3 Is Set to Continue (In 2027)
Without a doubt the most surprising revelation, the widely-criticized troubled production that was season 3 of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to stop the series' continuation. Season 3 will come back with a subsequent part in 2027—so far away they could have dubbed it season 4. Even more shocking, animation studio J.C. Staff will continue to be in charge. At least this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the beginning, which is seen as a positive development. However, the promotional image for the new episodes is the same image the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This makes me think that, nowadays, they must be trolling the fans.
The Ruri Dragon Series Is Poised to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has built a reputation for being an top-tier animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the superb artistry of its work but for the good working conditions of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had not adapted an anime based on a manga from Shonen Jump, perhaps the most famous magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became a huge following when it debuted in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the creator's health issues. When it returned with a lighter schedule, the series showed it still retained the fans' support and positive sentiment, and now everyone is overjoyed about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.
The Kingdom Series Season 6 Will Get a Sequel In Production
Kingdom is the best-selling, long-running Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English translation, but the anime has been going on for some time, and its sixth season was a further stellar entry. It turns out that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been announced as in development, and it will probably premiere in 2026.
Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series
One more studio renowned for the artistic merit of its productions, Science Saru has brought us masterpieces of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the real historical figure of Fatima, an powerful woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and fascinating visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my watchlist.
The Tougen Anki Series Will Return With a Season Two
Immediately following the airing of episode 24, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be getting a follow-up. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The second season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete air date has not been disclosed yet.
